Which hand wash station should you rent?

Rent the PolyJohn Bravo when 2 people need to wash at once, such as events and crews. The Bravo holds 22 gallons and gives about 350 washes per fill. The single-station PolyJohn PSW1 holds 15.5 gallons, gives about 250 washes and fits tighter spots like a food booth.

How far does one fill go? The refill math

One Bravo fill gives about 350 hand washes. Count each restroom visit as 1 wash, then divide total visits by 350. A party of 100 guests averaging 2 visits uses about 200 washes, so 1 Bravo covers the day. At 400 washes or more, add a second station or a refill.

Food and drink raise the visit count. At a cookout or bar, plan 3 visits per guest instead of 2.

How many hand wash stations per toilet?

Our recommendation is 1 two-station hand wash for every 4 toilets. An event with 8 standard units gets 2 Bravo stations. If you would rather skip outside stations, deluxe units have a sink inside each toilet. Hand sanitizer comes in every standard unit either way.

Jobsite handwashing and OSHA 1926.51(f)

OSHA rule 29 CFR 1926.51(f) covers washing facilities on construction sites, with soap and towels. Crews that handle paint, concrete, roofing tar or chemicals need a real wash, not just sanitizer. One Bravo serves a small crew for a week between our weekly service visits.

The construction sanitation rule is OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Paragraph (f) covers washing facilities. Your safety lead decides what your job needs; we supply the station and the weekly refill.

  • Set the station next to the toilet so crews use both.
  • Weekly service refills water, soap and towels and pumps the gray tank.
  • Billing runs on the same 28-day cycle as the toilet.

More on crew sizing in our OSHA jobsite toilet guide.

Hand washing for food lines and cookouts

Put a hand wash station where guests eat, not only where the toilets are. Keep porta potties at least 10 feet from tents and food prep, and set the station on the path between them. Food vendors should check their own health permit for any sink rules that apply.

Barbecue, fried fish and wings leave grease that sanitizer won't cut. Soap and water work better.

  • Set the station on the walk from the toilets to the food table.
  • Keep the station on level ground so the gray tank doesn't overflow.
  • For a vendor row at a fair, plan a station near each end. See festival restroom planning.

Where should the station sit?

Set the hand wash station on level, firm ground within 10 feet of the toilets. A full Bravo weighs about 250 pounds, so the station must stay where the driver places the unit. Avoid low spots on red clay, since spilled water turns the ground slick in minutes.

  1. Pick a flat spot next to the toilet doors.
  2. Use gravel, pavement or plywood if the ground is bare clay.
  3. Leave room for two people to stand side by side.
  4. Keep the station out of the main walkway so lines don't block traffic.

Questions renters ask before booking

Does a hand wash station come with the porta potty?

A hand wash station is a separate rental, but it rides on the same truck. Every standard unit already has hand sanitizer inside.

How much is a hand wash station rental?

A hand washing station starts at $95 for an event or $95 per 28-day cycle with weekly refills. The itemized quote lists delivery, mileage beyond 25 miles and SC sales tax and is final.

Is the water in the hand wash station heated?

The Bravo pumps unheated fresh water. Soap and friction do the cleaning, and the water stays at outdoor temperature.

Who refills the soap and paper towels?

We fill and stock the station at delivery. On rentals of 7+ days, weekly service refills fresh water, soap and towels and pumps the gray water.

Can you set a hand wash station by our food truck?

We can place a station near a food truck on level ground, as long as our truck can reach the spot. Your own health permit decides whether the truck needs its own sink.

Where does the used water go?

Used water drains into the Bravo's 24-gallon gray tank. We pump the tank at service or pickup and haul the water to an approved disposal facility.
