Can you put a porta potty in a Clemson University parking lot?

Clemson University and IPTAY control the official game-day lots, and each placard covers one 9 ft by 23 ft space. Their posted rules cover tents, cookers and generators rated at 70 decibels or lower. We found no posted rule on portable toilets, so ask Clemson Athletics or IPTAY before booking a unit for a university lot.

Tents, trailers and cookers must stay inside your placard space, and drive aisles must stay clear. A standard unit has a footprint of about 44 by 47 inches, but our truck and dolly still need an open aisle to set it. That's a big ask on a packed university lot.

Get the answer in writing from the university or IPTAY. If the answer is no, a private lot or yard nearby is the usual fix.

Where can a game-day unit go if not on a university lot?

Private property is the simple choice for a game-day unit. That includes lots that rent spaces, yards and rental houses near campus, and church or business lots with the owner's okay. Lot owners hosting 20 or more cars often rent 1 or 2 units. Keep the unit off road shoulders, since SCDOT right-of-way needs an encroachment permit.

Many lots along the roads into Clemson, Central and Pendleton sell game-day spaces. Owners who host 20 or more cars often rent 1 or 2 units for the season. Their customers stay longer when there's a clean restroom on site.

See our Clemson porta potty rentals page for the neighborhoods we deliver to near campus.

How many porta potties does a tailgate crowd need?

Tailgates run long, so we use guests times hours divided by 200, rounded up. Beer and other alcohol add 20%, with at least 1 extra unit. A 60-person tailgate over 6 hours with beer comes to 3 units. A crowd of 200 over 6 hours with beer needs 8 units.

Make at least 1 unit wheelchair-accessible when older fans or guests with mobility needs attend. Check your own count with the porta potty calculator.

Should you rent for one game or the whole season?

A single game works as an event rental: we drop the unit Friday and pick it up Monday at no extra charge. Clemson plays about 6 to 7 home games each fall. For a lot that hosts every home game, a season rental on 28-day cycles with weekly service usually makes more sense than separate drops.

A season unit stays put, so you don't have to book each game. Weekly service covers pumping, washing, deodorizer and restocking. You can add an extra visit after a big weekend.

When should the unit be delivered before a home game?

Order by Wednesday and plan on a Thursday or Friday drop. Our delivery window runs 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the driver calls about 30 minutes ahead. Saturday delivery is possible by request, but game traffic can stall a truck for hours. Pickup comes Monday, since we don't deliver or pick up on Sunday.

  1. Book early in game week with your address and fan count.
  2. Mark the spot with cones, stakes or a texted photo.
  3. We deliver Thursday or Friday; you don't need to be there.
  4. Enjoy the game; the unit arrives cleaned and fully stocked.
  5. We pick up Monday.

What unit fits a nicer private-lot setup?

For a hosted lot or a big family tailgate, the VIP flushing restroom cabin is the step up. The cabin has a flush toilet, a small vanity sink, a mirror and an interior light. Onboard tanks mean no hookup. The cabin needs a flat spot about 5 by 5 feet and truck access.

A deluxe PolyJohn Fleet unit with a foot-pump flush and interior sink is the middle option. Pair standard units with a two-station hand wash for a crowd. Compare them on our VIP flushing cabin page.

How do you keep a game-day unit clean through a long Saturday?

A standard unit holds a 60-gallon tank, 2 toilet paper rolls and hand sanitizer. For a 6-hour tailgate, set a trash can beside the door so cups and cans stay out of the tank. Place the unit in shade, because early-season games can still top 90°F. Keep spare paper rolls in your cooler.

Trash in the tank is the biggest problem at tailgates. It makes pumping harder and odor worse. A trash can and a lid on it fix most of that.

Keep the unit at least 10 feet from grills and food tables. Point the door away from the busiest walkway for privacy.

What should the lot owner check before delivery?

Lot owners should check 5 things before a game-day delivery. The ground is level and firm. There's a 10-foot clear path from the truck. The spot sits at least 10 feet from tents and cooking. Gates are at least 44 inches wide. The owner has approved the placement in writing or by text.

Red clay lots get slick after rain. A sheet of plywood or a gravel patch under the unit keeps it level. Our post on red clay placement has more detail.

Questions renters ask before booking

How much does a porta potty cost for one Clemson home game?

A standard event unit starts at $165 for a Friday drop and Monday pickup. Clemson is about 19 miles from our yard, so delivery and pickup are included. SC sales tax shows as its own line on the itemized quote.

Can I keep the same unit at my Clemson lot from September through November?

The unit can stay all season on 28-day cycles, starting at $155 per cycle with weekly service, plus a first-cycle delivery fee starting at $45. Call or text when the season ends; there's no removal fee.

Will you deliver on the Saturday morning of a game?

Saturday delivery is possible by request, but we steer game-day orders to Thursday or Friday. Game traffic around Clemson can block a truck for hours. A Friday drop has your unit in place before the crowds arrive.

Can neighboring tailgate groups split one unit?

Neighboring groups can share a unit on private property if the owner agrees. One person books and pays by card, and that person is our contact. Damage beyond normal wear, like tipping, is the renter's responsibility.

Do you bring a wheelchair-accessible unit for a tailgate with older fans?

The Satellite Freedom wheelchair-accessible unit has a ground-level floor, grab bars and a 60-inch turning space. The unit needs a level spot about 66 by 87 inches. Event pricing starts at $225.

Who cleans up if guests leave trash in the unit?

Our crew pumps and cleans the unit at pickup as part of the rental. Bottles, cans and cups in the tank make pumping harder, so set a trash can beside the door. Bag up outside trash yourself; we handle the unit.
